A Little About Me!
Name: Liam Alex Parton Age: Eighteen Birthday: 14th Febuary 1985 Instrument: Drums - Yamaha Stage Custom Fave Music/Bands: Oh, man, thats a seriously big cupboard to go looking in....I mean, there are so many. I Like older stuff, like Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Motley Crew, Slade, The Police, as well as more recent bands, like Nirvana, Hot Hot Heat, The Darkness, Nickleback, Saliva, Reel Big Fish, Marilyn Manson, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Hives, Polyphonic Spree, The Vines, 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Greenday, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other kinda stuff of that style. As well as the more rocky kinda tunes, I also like calmer, more chilled music, such as that produced by Coldplay, Train, Dave Matthews Band, Rufus Wainwright, Elton John, and there's even a place in my heart for little bit 50's Rock N Roll!! Generally though, I pretty much stick any thing in my ears, as long as its got good drums and guitars pounding away. You get my drift!

My Drumming History
Well I first picked up a pair of drum sticks when I was 11, having been wowed by the drumming of a friend, Steven Duffy - the solo's he used to play blew me away far more than any instrument noise I'd ever heard. I started having lessons soon after, with Mr Ashmore, and he taught me the basics, which still form a part of my ever day playing, so I owe him a lot. After a year of lessons with him, however, I changed teachers, and for just over six years now, I have been taught by John Hammand.
John Hammond is a seriously good drummer, he can play any style, any speed, and do just about anything a person can do on a drum kit. I mean, when I showed him the sheet music to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', he played it perfectly first time through, having never seen it before!!!! I mean it took me a good week to get it right!!! Although I would be foolish and arrogant (what me...arrogant??? Give over..) to think I had anywhere near the skill he posesses from his years of drumming, I would certainly like to think that some of the things he taught me, particular technical solos and fills, as well as that all important syncopation, are now strongly evident in my playing. I've done grade bits as well, and have reached grade six standard, but more recently, I've shyed away from Grades, and I prefer to work on composing stylish percussion duets, as well as developing my own unique style, within 'Random Hand'. I'm currently on my second drum kit, which as you may have figured by now (if you've looked at the picture), is a Metallic Blue Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Kit, fitted out with Sabian Cymbals, all of which I purchased from The Boom Room in Southsea. To play, I use Vic Firth Sticks, as they are, in my opinion the best compromise of weight and durability.

A Little More About Me
Well, I'm Liam, and the chances are that if your here, viewing this page, then you already know me, and I have shamelessly plugged this website to you, begging you to view my page. Well, thanks for coming! However, for those of you who don't know me, and have just come here having seen us play a Gig or have found this site by accident, I will write a little about me, which you can pretend to be interested in.Well, I'm a majorly laid back kind of dude, who doesn't take anything to seriously. Some mistake my chilled out attitude for plain old gormlessness/lazziness/stupidity/idiocy (delete as applicable), but I prefer to think of myself as laidback. Despite this though, I'm a funny guy, no two ways about...the life and soul of any party/gathering/funeral, etc. I'm even funny looking it would seem, seeing as little kids point and laugh at me in the street...Man, they can be so cruel! |
My Drum KitWell, not actually my kit...just the same model...and colour....although perhaps mine is a lttle less shiny...and judging by this photo, I've got my cymbal stands the wrong way round....Man, I should probably do something about that...
